With so much going on in the world of AI, nobody would blame you for feeling a little overwhelmed. There’s a whole vocabulary of new words that are being thrown around… but what do they mean and why does the guy in the AI YouTube tutorial that you’re watching sound like he’s speaking another language?

Well, fear not! This article will take you through everything, from the basics to the more complex terminology in AI art

General AI Terms:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Artificial intelligence, or AI, refers to machines that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as understanding language or recognizing objects. It does this by using algorithms and statistical models to analyze data and learn from experience.

Examples:

  • Siri
  • Xbox Kinect

Algorithm – An AI algorithm is a computer program that learns from examples and makes decisions based on what it has learned.

Examples:

  • Google Search
  • Tiktok recommendations
  • The matrix…

AI Chatbot – An AI chatbot is a computer program that uses artificial intelligence to simulate conversation with human users. It’s essentially a virtual assistant that can help answer questions, provide information, and even carry out simple tasks.

Examples:

  • ChatGPT
  • …or my personal favourite, Clippy!

Neural Networks – AI neural networks are computer systems that are designed to simulate the structure and function of the human brain. They use algorithms and statistical models to analyze and learn from large amounts of data, and has a wide range of utility such as  image and speech recognition, natural language processing and predictive analytics.

Example – Handwriting recognition – “is it a letter or a number?”

Machine Learning – Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence that allows computer systems to automatically learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed. It involves training algorithms to recognize patterns in data and make predictions or decisions based on those patterns.

Example – The use of algorithms to identify spam emails based on patterns in the text and metadata.

Deep Learning – Deep learning is a type of machine learning that involves training artificial neural networks with many layers to analyze and learn from data. This technique can be used for a wide range of applications, from recognizing faces in photos to predicting disease outbreaks.

Example – Self driving cars

AI ARTWORK DEFINITIONS:

Text Prompt – An AI text prompt is a short phrase or sentence that is used to inspire an AI algorithm to create an original artwork. The prompt can be anything from a single word to a longer sentence, and can be related to a specific theme or subject.

Example – Typing in a robot dog text prompt into the AutoMinter AI NFT Generator.

AI Art – AI art refers to artworks that are created with the help of artificial intelligence. These artworks can take many forms, from abstract images generated by algorithms to more traditional styles like portraits or landscapes. The AI is used to generate or manipulate the artwork, often resulting in unique and unexpected results.

Example – Abstract Pokemon created with the AutoMinter AI NFT Generator.

Generative Art – Generative art involves the use of algorithms to create art through processes such as randomness, chance, or other computational methods. Although similar, whilst AI art may involve generative processes, not all generative art is created using AI.

Deepfake – Deepfake is a technique that uses artificial intelligence to create realistic videos or images of people doing things they never actually did. While deepfakes have raised concerns about the potential for misuse, there are also positive use cases, such as in the film and entertainment industry where deepfakes can be used to create convincing special effects or realistic animations.

Example – Jerry Seinfeld in Pulp Fiction [DeepFake]

Reference Images – An AI reference image is essentially a starting point or inspiration for an AI algorithm to create original artwork. Think of it like a template or guide that the AI uses to create its own unique interpretation.

For example, you could provide an AI with a reference image of a landscape, and it would use that as a basis to generate its own version of the scene. Or, you could give it a reference image of a portrait and it would generate a new version of the portrait with its own unique style and interpretation.

Base Images – A base image refers to the first iteration that the AI art generator produces. This forms the base building block of your AI artwork which you can modify and change to get your desired results.

BLOCKCHAIN AI DEFINITIONS:

AI Blockchain Network – An AI blockchain network is a decentralized system where computer algorithms, or AI, can interact and make decisions based on pre-defined rules. The transactions and data in this network are stored in blocks, which are linked together in a chain using cryptographic techniques, making it secure and transparent. This allows for efficient and reliable data management without the need for a central authority or intermediary.

AI Utility NFTs – AI utility NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are unique digital assets that are created using artificial intelligence and have a specific purpose or utility. They can be used in a variety of ways, such as in virtual worlds, gaming, or even as proof of ownership for physical assets. These NFTs are designed to be functional, rather than just collectible, and can be used to unlock certain features or access specific content within a given platform or ecosystem. The AI is used to generate these NFTs, often resulting in unique and unpredictable outcomes.

Example – ASM protocol enables anyone to own an A.I, and the machine learning models that define what it learns over time. Owners pair an NFT intelligence (a Brain) with NFT artwork (a Form), to create their Agent.
